Blessed

February 4th, 2007

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11: 29-30)

I am blessed.

I was able to sing with Eric today in church, and during the second service I walked to the back and sat down beside the sound board. It was during the sermon. I looked ahead of me, and two women about four rows from the back caught my eye. As I watched them talking, I began to cry. They were both very beautiful, in late twenties or early thirties, with short, dark hair and attractive make-up. They were talking with their hands. The lady on the left was deaf, sitting beside her husband, and the woman to the right of her was telling her the sermon. I had already listened to the sermon in the first service, so I sort of knew what he was going to say before he said it. As our pastor conveyed the powerful exhortation of the gospel, I watched these women communicating and wept. Everyone was watching our pastor, but I was watching these two in amazement. The interpreter was signing with such passion, such fervor. I was blessed to witness her speak the truth in this way to her friend. This is love, and God truly is glorified in how we speak, whether it is with our mouths or with our hands. This is another reason corporate worship is so essential and amazing to me.

I love the Lord’s Day and worshipping with the Lord’s people.
